BEEN THERE, DONE THAT
The Hoosiers are going to get early tests this season with three highly ranked opponents on the docket, but such challenges at the beginning of the year are the norm for this program. Indiana has opened the past two seasons against UCLA, with the Bruins coming off of national championships prior to each of those two years.
HOOSIERS IN THE POLLS
Indiana will enter the 2011 season at No. 13 in the Varsity Top 20, which marks the highest preseason ranking for the Hoosiers since 2006 (No. 11). Indiana is also No. 2 in the CWPA Poll, as defending conference champion Michigan holds the top spot.
ALL-AMERICAN
Junior Jakie Köhli is coming off a stellar sophomore campaign in which she earned ACWPC Honorable Mention All-American honors after notching 80 goals, which surpassed Brooke Zimmerman's single-season school record of 77 set in 2008. Köhli's scoring output ranked third among the CWPA. The Burnaby, B.C. native also continued to make her presence felt on the defensive end, grabbing a team-high 72 steals.
SUPER SENIORS
Head coach Barry King and the Hoosiers return 92 percent of their scoring from a season ago, including a highly-productive senior class that features four CWPA All-Western Division performers. Kara Butler, Kelsey Campbell, Nicole Redder, and Lauren Wyckoff have accounted for 394 goals and 290 starts during their careers.
`D' Up!
The Hoosiers made suffocating defense a mainstay last season and look to once again be strong on that end of the pool. Junior goalkeeper Cassie Wyckoff will be looked upon to provide a consistent presence between the pipes. She has made 44 starts through two seasons, racking up 404 saves to go along with a 6.53 goals against average.
CENTURY MARK
The Indiana roster currently features three players with over 100 career goals (Jakie Köhli, Nicole Redder, and Lauren Wyckoff). Kelsey Campbell needs just one score to join the trio and crack the century mark.
Wyckoff has also made a habit of finding teammates in scoring position as she needs four assists to become the sixth Hoosier to reach 100 in a career. The Los Altos, Calif. native had 45 assists in 2010, which ties for fourth on the IU single-season list.
