#1 Penn State Turns Away #20 Hoosiers, 36-8

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The top-ranked Penn State Nittany Lions (13-0, 2-0) proved to be too much for Indiana Wrestling as the #20 Hoosiers came out on the wrong end of a 36-8 tally Sunday afternoon in Bloomington. Matt Powless tallied his 29th victory of the season while redshirt freshman Justin Brooks earned the first Big Ten win of his young collegiate career.
The match started at 125 pounds, and began with the Cream and Crimson leading 3-0 over #1 PSU. Brooks got things going quickly, shooting within the first few ticks of the clock and connecting for a takedown and the 2-0 lead. He added in one more takedown before the conclusion of the opening period to take a 4-1 advantage into the second stanza. The two combatants then exchanged complete periods of riding out the opposition; resulting in a 5-1 decision for Brooks with his minute-plus riding time edge earning the final point.
It took just over five minutes for Powless to post five points on the team scoreboard, cruising past Nick Ruggear in a 19-4 technical fall in the first few seconds of the final period. Powless, who entered the weekend leading the nation with 12 major decisions and tied for third at 28 total victories, posted seven takedowns against the Nittany Lion.
