Women's Swim and Dive to Face Michigan, Texas

This Weekend
• The Hoosier women will face one of their toughest tests of the season this Friday, Oct. 28, as they travel to take on Michigan and Texas in a double dual meet in Ann Arbor, Mich.
• The 16-event meet will begin at 11 a.m. ET. Live results can be found here:
• This is the fifth-straight year that these three teams have participated in this meet. In 2007 Indiana lost to Texas (180-190) and Michigan (163-207). In 2008, IU beat Michigan (232-157) but lost to Texas (211-178). The 2009 meet resulted in a 215-174 win over Michigan and a 222-162 loss to Texas. Last year the Hoosiers were swept by Michigan (182-188) and Texas (173-189).

About the Hoosier Women
• The Hoosiers are coming off a 1-1 split last weekend with Tennessee and Kentucky. The Hoosiers defeated the Wildcats 205-78, but came up short against the Volunteers, 120-163.
• Senior Brittany Strumbel was a two-time winner for the Hoosiers, taking the 200-yard freestyle (1:48.37) and 500 yard freestyle (4:49.37). Senior Margaux Farrell was a also a double winner with victories in the 50 free (23.59) and 100 free (50.75).
• Newcomer Justine Ress was the top Hoosier finisher in the 100 backstroke, clocking a time of 56.10. Freshman Lauren Jordan posted top-five finishes in the 1,000 free (4th-10:16.85), 500 free (4th-4:57.73) and 400 free relay (2nd-3:25.95).
• In the diving well, sophomore Laura Ryan took the 3-meter springboard title with 370.65 points, and NCAA Zone qualifying score. She also took second in the 1-meter competition with an NCAA Zone qualifying mark of 290.75. For her efforts, Ryan was named the co-Big Ten Diver of the Week.
• The Hoosiers should be competing nearly at full strength this week after a couple of Hoosiers were unavailable for last weekend's meet. Senior Allysa Vavra and sophomore Brenna MacLean are back after representing Team USA and Team Canada, respectively, at the 2011 Pan Am Games.
International Success
• Hoosiers swimmers are off to a good start this season on the international scene with several bringing home hardware from the recent Pan Am Games in Guadalajara, Mexico.
• Swimming for Team USA, senior Allysa Vavra earned a bronze medal in the 400-meter individual medley at the Games on Oct. 15 with a time of 4:48.05. It is the fourth-fastest time in the Indiana record books.
• Competing for her native Canada, sophomore Brenna MacLean picked up a silver medal as a member of the 400-meter medley relay. MacLean swam in the prelim session, qualifying the team for the final where it finished second in 4:07.04. She also finished sixth in the 200-meter butterfly with a time of 2:16.13.
• Junior Amy Cozad and former Hoosier Amy Korthauer are representing the USA in diving events at the Pan Am Games. Korthauer finished ninth (262.00) and Cozad 10th (260.60) in the platform competition. The two will also take part in the synchronized platform competition on Oct. 26.
About The Coaches
• Ray Looze enters his seventh year at the helm of both the men's and women's swimming programs and his 10th year of mentoring the men at Indiana University.
• Looze has guided the women to four Big Ten titles in his seven years at the helm of the program and led the men to a Big Ten crown in 2006.
• Diving coach Dr. Jeff Huber is in his 23rd season at Indiana. He has been recognized as the Big Ten Coach of the Year on 13 occasions (six for women's and seven for men's) and has coached student-athletes to 41 Big Ten titles and 18 Big Ten Divers of the Year in his 22-year tenure at IU.
