PRINCETON, N.J. - Indiana's Varsity 8 crew turned in an eighth-place finish among a field of 49 crews highlighted by the best programs in the country, at the Princeton Chase on Sunday, Oct. 30, on Lake Carnegie.
"The result was great," said head coach Steve Peterson. "I think Princeton, Virginia and Yale are a step above everyone else, but we are right in there with Cornell and Dartmouth. The fact that we beat Brown, the reining National Champion, was huge. We raced a great race. We went into it wanting to be aggressive. We are very happy with the result."
The Hoosiers (Alex Burkle - coxswain, Grace Mendel, Asja Zero, Shifumi Terasaka, Cara Donley, Ann Thompson, Rachel Griffin, Kathryn Laine and Jaclyn Riedel) finished in 15:28.62 in the three-mile head race, battling Penn throughout the race to finish shy of the Quakers (7th, 15:27.54). Indiana beat out Virginia's C (9th, 15:29.56) and B (10th, 15:32.29) crews, Syracuse (11th, 15:233.70), Brown (A - 12th, 15:33.88/B - 14th, 15:50.48), Columbia (13th, 15:37.86) and Yale (B - 15th, 15:51.36).
