Friday Prelim Results
400 Individual Medley
Junior Allysa Vavra, who won the 200 IM last night, set a new Big Ten, Big Ten Meet, School and Pool record in the 400 individual medley prelims this morning with a time of 4:05.42. That tops the old record of 4:06.37 set by Minnesota's Jenny Shaughnessy in 2009. Ashley Jones, the runner-up in last night's 200 IM, will join her in the final with the third-fastest qualifying time (4:11.28). Kim Tracey will swim the consolation final after posting a career best of 4:16.35. Brittany Barwegen joins her in the consolation final with a time of 4:19.86.
100 Butterfly
Brenna MacLean and Barwegen will swim the consolation final of the 100 butterfly tonight. MacLean posted a career-best time of 54.31 in the morning prelims, good for ninth place. Barwegen was right behind with her NCAA B cut of 54.32 to finish 10th.
200 Freestyle
Indiana dominated the 200 freestyle prelims as five Hoosiers will swim in tonight's championship final. Brittany Strumbel, who set the Big Ten record in the 200 free Wednesday night, is the top qualifier in 1:45.13. Margaux Farrell qualified second (1:45.55), with Nikki White sixth (1:46.76), Courey Schaefer seventh (1:46.85) and Taylor Wohrley eighth (1:47.05). Sara Delay will swim the consolation final after posting a 1:47.58, which is a career best. Stephanie Armstrong went a career best 1:48.53 to finish 19th. Guinevere Vanden Noort took nearly three seconds off her career best with a time of 1:50.92 to win her heat and finish 37th. Justine Jones went a career best 1:51.07 for 44th, while Laura Head also put up a career mark of 1:54.06. Ashley Kranz finished in 1:56.52.
100 Breaststroke
The Hoosiers placed a pair of swimmers in the 100 breaststroke final with Bronwyn Pasloski going a career best 1:01.81 to place fifth in the prelims. Ashley Specht also put up a career mark of 1:01.01, good for sixth place. Brittney Phelan will swim the consolation final after going 1:02.24, good for 15th. Katelyn Ishee's time of 1:03.25 placed her 22nd.
100 Backstroke
Taylor Wohrley had the second-fastest qualifying time in the 100 backstroke, breaking 53 seconds for the first time in her career with a mark of 52.83. Brenna MacLean also went a career best, finishing 17th in 55.66.
Brittney Feldman and Laura Ryan have qualified for tonight's championship final in 3-meter diving. Feldman took 3rd in prelims with 368.70 points. Ryan was sixth with 340.20 points. Both were career best marks.
