PALM SPRINGS, Calif. - The Hoosiers used a 10-hit attack against Cal State Fullerton to improve to 7-7 on the year following a 5-2 victory over the Titans at the Cathedral City Classic. Sara Olson (2-0) had two doubles and a RBI in addition to allowing two runs to pick up her second win of the year in the circle.
Freshman Jenna Abraham lined a two-strike pitch to right center field to drive in Amanda Wagner and Cassie Gogreve and give Indiana a 2-1 lead in the fourth inning. Meaghan Murphy was hit by a pitch with one out in the inning. She advanced to second on a hit by Cassie Gogreve but was thrown out at the plate on a shallow single down the left field line by Wagner.
Sara Olson laced a double down the left field line to make it 3-1 in favor of Indiana in the top of the fifth inning and Meaghan Murphy lifted a sacrifice fly to right field to plate Ashley Warrum and bump the IU advantage to 4-2.
Fullerton added a unearned run in the bottom of the fifth inning to make it 4-2.
However, Indiana rallied back in the top of the seventh inning when Breanna Saucedo dropped a one-out single into left field to start things. A fielder's choice by Warrum left a runner at first with two outs. Olson drilled the next offering to center field and the ball trickled under the fence for a ground rule double. The next batter, Murphy pounded one through the left side of the infield to up the IU lead to 5-2.
Freshman Ashley Warrum made her first career start for Indiana, batting in the second spot in the order, and had a pair of hits and scored two runs.
Olson's complete line showed two runs allowed - one earned - on four hits to go with four walks and one strikeout.
Ari Cervantes (2-3) took the loss for Indiana, allowing five earned runs on 11 hits and four strikeouts.
The Hoosiers defeated Fullerton by a score of 4-1 last year and collected 12 hits off Cervantes in that contest held at Fullerton.
