Big Ten Championship Pre-Seeds Released

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Big Ten conference announced the pre-seeds for the 2011 conference wrestling championships on Monday (Feb. 28), and six Hoosiers earned a pre-seed. Northwestern University is hosting the Big Ten Wrestling Championships from March 5-6.
Heavyweight Ricky Alcala is Indiana's highest pre-seeded wrestler, slotted at No. 2 with his 7-1 Big Ten dual match record. Kurt Kinser (No. 3 at 149 lbs.), Matt Powless (No. 4, 197 lbs.), Paul Young (No. 5, 157 lbs.), Justin Brooks (No. 6, 125 lbs.) and Ryan LeBlanc (No. 7, 165 lbs.) were also tabbed as pre-seeds. The NCAA office recently released the allocation numbers per weight for the 2011 NCAA Championships in Philadelphia, Pa., from March 17-19. In addition to the 282 automatic births determined at the conference championships this weekend, 48 student-athletes will be picked as at-large bids to the national tournament. A total of 330 wrestlers (33 in each weight class) will come together in the city of Brotherly Love.
