Hoosiers Advance Two Divers to NCAA Championships

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Indiana University junior Gabby Agostino and freshman Darian Schmidt have punched their tickets to the 2011 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships thanks to their performances today at the NCAA Zone C Diving Championships at the McCorkle Aquatics Pavilion in Columbus, Ohio.
Agostino earned her spot at the NCAA meet, set for March 17-19 in Austin, Texas, by winning the women's three-meter springboard competition with a score of 706.30 points. With nine spots available for female divers from Zone C, the first- through fourth-place finishers in the 3-meter competition qualified for the NCAA meet.
Schmidt will make his NCAA debut after a third-place finish in the men's 1-meter springboard competition. Schmidt tallied 704.80 points to earn one of the seven spots available for men in Zone C.
Other Hoosiers still have a chance to qualify with the women's 1-meter and platform competitions to come, as well as the men's 3-meter and platform contests. The meet continues tomorrow and concludes Saturday.
