Hoosiers Head to Michigan for Saturday Races

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana rowing team will travel north to Belleville, Mich., to take on No. 19 Oklahoma, Buffalo and Grand Valley State on Belleville Lake, Saturday, April 16. Saturday's racing is hosted by No. 14 Michigan.
The Hoosiers open the day against the Sooners with a series of 2,000-meter pieces beginning at 9 a.m. ET. IU will then race Buffalo and Grand Valley State at 1 p.m.
Indiana is coming off a successful weekend in Columbus, Ohio, in the Double Duals hosted by Ohio State on April 9. The Hoosiers' first Novice 8 and second Varsity 8 crews went undefeated, while IU's first Varsity 8 boat beat Iowa, Bucknell and Rhode Island, but just missed No. 20 Louisville.
The first Novice 8 crew beat Iowa (7:06.7) in its first race by five seconds with a time of 7:01.9. In the afternoon session, it finished in 7:21.9, beating out Louisville (7:30.4) by nine seconds. In the morning second Varsity 8 race, the Hoosiers topped Iowa (6:56.2) by three seconds with a time of 6:53.0, while Rhode Island finished in third with a time of 6:56.9. IU then beat out Bucknell (7:06.8) by one second, crossing the finish line in 7:05.2, with Louisville finishing in 7:08.2.
In the morning first Varsity 8 race, the Hoosiers topped Iowa (6:52.2) by four seconds with a time of 6:48.6, while Rhode Island finished in 7:06.1. In the afternoon race, IU started out strong but came up just one second short to Louisville (7:02.5) with a time of 7:03.6, while beating Bucknell (7:16.8) by 14 seconds.
Following this weekend's racing, the Hoosiers will head east to take on Georgetown and George Washington in Washington, DC on Friday, April 22.
