BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Due to poor course conditions, the Indiana rowing team will not race against George Washington and Georgetown in Washington, DC on Friday, and will instead face Louisville in a scrimmage on Lake Lemon on Saturday, April 23, in Bloomington.
The Hoosiers and Cardinals will race in a series of 2,000-meter pieces in an informal regatta from the IU Rowing Center beginning at 8 a.m. ET. IU is coming off of a weekend where poor weather conditions forced a regatta hosted by No. 15 Michigan to include just three Varsity 8 races. In the first Varsity 8 race, the Hoosiers finished in 7:15.66, just two seconds behind then-No. 19 Oklahoma (7:13.79). No. 15 Michigan took first in 7:11.15. In the second Varsity 8 race, the Hoosiers beat OU (7:13.02) by three seconds for a time of 7:10.22, just behind Michigan (7:00.86). In the third Varsity 8 race, IU finished in 7:02.83, just four seconds behind the Sooners (6:58.07) and 10 seconds ahead of Buffalo (7:12.84). Michigan took first in 7:02.83.
Following this Saturday's scrimmage, the Hoosiers will have three weeks to prepare for the 2011 Big Ten Rowing Championships, held on Eagle Creek Reservoir in Indianapolis on Sunday, May 15.
