COLUMBUS, Ind. - After day one was a wash with less than ideal weather conditions, the Indiana University women's golf team finally got to hit the course at Otter Creek Golf Club, finishing fourth at the IU Invitational.
Originally a 54-hole event, the tournament was scaled back to 36 holes with most of the play coming on Tuesday. Major delays due to thunderstorms in the area allowed players to get through less than nine holes on Monday.
Indiana posted rounds of 319 and 303 to finish with a score of 622. Louisville took the team title with a score of 593, followed by Eastern Michigan (615), Illinois (619) and the Hoosiers.
Finishing round one on Tuesday, freshman Lindsay Gahm posted a 4-over 76 and added a 5-over 77 in round two to finish tied for eighth with a score of 153. Sophomore Kate Coons tied for 19th after putting up scores of 83 (+11) and 73 (+1). Her score of 73 in round two was low round of the tournament for the IU A squad.
Sophomore Jacqueline Yanch also placed tied for 19th, recording identical 6-over scores of 78 (156). After an 85 in round one, junior Kristtini Cain bounced back with a 3-over 75 in the afternoon and finished tied for 24th (157).
Playing in the No. 5 spot, senior Lauren Giesecke tied for 59th with a score of 164 (85-79).
As the IU Invitational serves as the Hoosiers' only home event of the season, IU also put a second team in the field, placing tied for ninth with a score of 633 (316-317). Senior Cecilia Orevik tied for 14th on the leader board after rounds of 76 and 79 (155). Sophomore Pamela Burneski finished in a tie for 31st with a tally of 158 (80-78). Sophomore Rosie Davies followed in a tie for 36th (81-79=160).
Sophomore Molly O'Connor tied for 43rd in her first tournament of the year, scoring 81 and 80 on the course (161). Freshman Sophie Hayashi tied for 51st at 162 (82-80). Playing as an individual, sophomore Kylee Wierks placed 81st (84-90=174).
