Hoosiers Cruise Past Two Divisional Foes

ERIE, Pa. - The No. 12 Indiana Hoosiers (17-10, 2-1 CWPA West) women's water polo team picked up a pair of convincing CWPA Western Division victories in Erie, Pa. on Friday, powering past Gannon, 15-4, and Mercyhurst, 17-4. The surging Hoosiers have won 15 of their last 17 contests, dating back to February 26, 2011.
Indiana got off to a blistering start against the Lady Knights of Gannon, scoring 11 first half goals to put the game out of reach.
Amanda Redfern had a career-high four goals on perfect 4-4 shooting to lead the Indiana scoring attack. Kate Dunn tied a career-high with three goals, while Nicole Redder and Jakie Köhli each had two. Kelsey Campbell, Hanna Eimstad, Shae Fournier, and Meghan Lappan had one goal apiece.
Cassie Wyckoff had nine saves in 24 minutes of action and allowed only one score. Redder played the goalkeeper position for the first time this season during the fourth period, making four stops.
The Hoosiers were deadly on the power play against Gannon, converting on six of their eight chances in the man-up.
Indiana continued its offensive assault in the second game of the day, jumping out to a 9-1 first half advantage against Mercyhurst. The Hoosiers then added eight second half goals to cruise to their second divisional win.
Against the Lakers, Fournier tied her career-high with four goals, marking the 13th multi-goal effort this season for the freshman. Redder notched a trio of scores, while Kara Butler, Köhli, and Lauren Wyckoff had two goals apiece. Katie Black, Lappan, and Redfern each fired in one goal in the win.
Cassie Wyckoff registered her 10th double-digit save outing of 2011, making 10 stops against Mercyhurst in 32 minutes of action. Wyckoff also dished out a pair of assists and had a steal.
Köhli had a strong defensive performance against the Lakers, reeling in five steals. Lauren Wyckoff had a steal and a field block, while also dishing out a career-high-tying four assists.
The Hoosiers will be back in action on Saturday, where they will head to Lewisburg, Pa. for the Bison Invitational. Indiana will take on tournament host Bucknell at 1:00 p.m., followed by a 5:30 p.m. meeting with No. 14 Hartwick. The two games will wrap up divisional play for the Hoosiers, who will then take on Maryland on Sunday at 10:00 a.m.
