SHANGHAI, China - Former Hoosier All-American and 2009 NCAA Champion Christina Loukas posted a seventh-place finish in the synchronized 3-meter springboard competition Saturday at the FINA World Championships in Shanghai, China.
Loukas and partner Kassidy Cook finished with 288 points in the first final of the nine-day championships. China's Wu Minxia and He Zi won the gold with 356.40 points. Canada's Emilie Heymans and Jennifer Abel scored 313.50 for silver, and Australia's Anabelle Smith and Sharleen Stratton took third at 306.90.
The U.S. squad was in fifth place after three rounds, and just five points separated third from seventh with two rounds to go. Loukas missed on her reverse 2 ∏ pike in the fourth round to drop the team out of medal contention, but the duo rallied back for 69.30 points on their last dive.
"I didn't do that dive the way I wanted to," Loukas said. "Hopefully I can redeem myself in the individual event."
Loukas will compete in the individual 3-meter preliminaries on Friday.
