SHANGHAI, China - Indiana University All-American and 2009 NCAA Champion Christina Loukas finished fourth in the women's 3-meter springboard competition Saturday at the FINA World Championships in Shanghai, China.
Loukas, who finished ninth in the event at the 2008 Olympics and eighth at the 2009 World Championships, scored 350.10 points to become the first American woman since Karen Dalton in 1994 to finish in the top four on 3-meter at a World Championships.
China's Wu Minxia captured the gold, with He Zi of China taking silver and Canada's Jennifer Abel the bronze.
"My primary goal for this meet was to get in the top 12 to get an Olympic spot for Team USA," Loukas said. "Today I just wanted to have fun and do my think like I do in practice. I dove well and I'm really happy with my performance."
Loukas dove at Indiana from 2004-09, redshirting the 2007-08 season while preparing for the 2008 Olympics. She was a six-time Big Ten Champion and a four-time Big Ten Diver of the Year honoree. She capped her Hoosier career in 2009 with an NCAA title on the 3-meter springboard and finished as runner-up on the 1-meter springboard.
