2011-12 Schedule
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana rowing head coach Steve Peterson announced the Hoosiers' 2011-12 schedule on Friday, Aug. 12, which features IU hosting the Big Ten Double Dual on April 7 and the fourth annual Dale England Cup on April 27-28 on Lake Lemon in Bloomington.
"We are very excited about the upcoming 2011-12 racing schedule that we have put together," said Peterson. "We will see top programs from across the country that should prepare us extremely well for the Big Ten Championships and beyond. Outside of the Big Ten Conference, we will face seven programs that finished in the top 20 last year and as usual, the other programs in the Big Ten should continue to be extremely fast as well, since last year four Big Ten programs finished in the top 20, with Minnesota and Indiana finishing just outside of it."
The Hoosiers open the fall slate on Oct. 1 with their annual Lemonhead Regatta on Lake Lemon in Bloomington and will then travel to Princeton, N.J., for the Princeton Chase on Oct. 30. During the month of November, IU will compete in a scrimmage vs. Notre Dame in Indianapolis on Nov. 6 and will scrimmage Ohio State and Michigan State in Columbus, Ohio on Nov. 12.
Following its Winter Training Trip Dec. 31-Jan. 7, Indiana will take its Spring Break Training Trip March 10-17, with a regatta at Clemson on March 17. The spring-opening regatta with the Tigers will feature Boston University, Syracuse, Purdue and Marist. The Hoosiers will host Minnesota and Wisconsin in the Big Ten Double Dual on Lake Lemon on April 7, before traveling to Gold River, Calif., to compete in the Lake Natoma Invite with Brown, California, Duke, Sacramento State, Stanford, Texas, Tulsa, Washington State and Wisconsin on April 14-15.
Indiana will host the fourth annual Dale England Cup on April 27-28, which will pit the Hoosiers against Central Florida, Rhode Island and Tennessee. The Dale England Cup will serve as IU's last regular season regatta.
"The highlights of the 2011-12 campaign are the annual trip east to the Princeton Chase, a trip to California to race in the Lake Natoma Invite, and two home regattas, including the fourth annual Dale England Cup," Peterson said.
On May 13, the Hoosiers will head to Eagle Creek Reservoir in Indianapolis for the 2011 Big Ten Championships. The season will wrap up with the NCAA Championships in Camden, N.J., on May 25-27.
"I know the team has been working hard over the summer and is fired up for the upcoming year," added Peterson. "The schedule we have put together should really allow the athletes to showcase the work they have done and build upon the success they had last year."
