BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - After a three-goal, one-assist performance last weekend at the Mike Berticelli Memorial Tournament, Indiana senior midfielder Alec Purdie is the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week, the conference office announced Monday.
Indiana went 2-0 this past weekend to win the Mike Berticelli Memorial Tournament at Notre Dame and is 4-0-1 on the season.
Purdie helped lead Indiana to a 3-2 win over Bucknell Friday with his first career multiple-goal game. His first score came in the 20th minute to give the Hoosiers a 1-0 lead. He extended the advantage to 2-0 with his third goal of the season in the 24th minute. He finished the match with three shots.
In Sunday's 2-1 victory over Denver, Purdie notched what would be the game-winning score in the 23rd minute. He also had an assist on Chris Estridge's goal in the seventh minute that gave Indiana a 1-0 lead.
Purdie leads the Big Ten in goals scored with four, which is also a new career mark for goals in a season for the senior. For his efforts over the weekend he was also named the College Soccer News Player of the Week and earned a spot on the Top Drawer Soccer Team of the Week.
It is the third-straight week the Big Ten has honored an IU player. Goalkeeper Luis Soffner was the Defensive Player of the Week on Aug. 29, while forward Eriq Zavaleta shared the Offensive Player of the Week award last week.
The Hoosiers continue their road swing this weekend as they travel to the East Coast for matches at St. John's Friday (8 p.m. ET) and Rutgers Sunday (1 p.m. ET).
