Hoosiers Sixth after Two Rounds of Mary Fossum Invitational

EAST LANSING, Mich. - An afternoon comeback in round two has propelled the Indiana women's golf team to sixth in the standings after 36 holes of the Mary Fossum Invitational at Michigan State.
The Hoosiers posted rounds of 316 and 302 for a score of 618. The host Spartans lead the field at 584, followed by Ohio State (604), Michigan (605), Kent State (606) and Miami (607) round out the top five.
"We made a great comeback in the second round, carving off 14 strokes," said head coach Clint Wallman. "We received great play from Rosie (Davies) and Kristtini (Cain) today. We need to try and limit major mistakes. That will go a long way in helping us pass teams on the leaderboard tomorrow."
Fresh off her victory at the IU Fall Kickoff, junior Rosie Davies has continued her strong play this weekend and is currently tied for third with a score of 147. After an opening-round 79, she bounced back with a 4-under 68 in round two, including birdies on two, nine and 18, as well an eagle on the par-4 15th hole.
Senior Kristtini Cain shaved nine strokes off her game between rounds one and two, posting an 81 and 72 to sit tied for 20th with a score of 153. Cain had birdies on four of 18 holes in round two, including her first two holes of the round.
Junior Kate Coons is tied for 48th with a 76 in round one and an 85 in the final 18. Sophomore Sophie Hayashi is also tied for 48th with scores of 80 and 81.
Making her first road trip, freshman Elizabeth Tong is tied for 59 with a score of 166 (85-81). Junior Pamela Burneski is competing as an individual and is tied for 37th after rounds of 80 and 78.
The Hoosiers close out tournament play Sunday with a single 18-hole round.
