Vavra Named to USA Swimming National Team

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana University senior Allysa Vavra has earned a spot on the 2011-12 USA Swimming National Team thanks to an outstanding performance as the ConocoPhillips USA Swimming National Championships last month.
Vavra earned her spot on the team in the 400-meter individual medley thanks to a time of 4:42.45 set at Nationals and good four an overall finish of fourth. The national team is comprised of the top six athletes in Olympic events from the combined results of the 2011 FINA World Championships, 2011 ConocoPhillips National Championships and the 2011 World University Games.
Vavra is the defending Big Ten Champion in the 400-yard individual medley and is the Big Ten record holder with a time of 4:04.30, set at last year's NCAA Championship meet. She will represent the United States in the 2011 Pan-Am Games, Oct. 14-30 in Guadalajara, Mexico.
Also named to the USA Swimming National Team was former Hoosier Kevin Swander. Swander earned a spot on the team in the 100-meter breaststroke after clocking a time of 1:00.59 at the ConocoPhillios USA Swimming Nationals.
