Women's Swim and Dive Splits with Kentucky, Tennessee

LEXINGTON, Ky. - The Indiana women's swimming and diving team opened its 2012-13 season Friday, topping Kentucky, 189-111 but falling short to Tennessee, 183-117 in a double dual meet at the Lancaster Aquatic Center in Lexington, Ky.
The quartet of Brooklyn Snodgrass, Ashley Specht, Haley Lips and Bronwyn Pasloski took second in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:41.79.
The Hoosiers went 1-2 in the 1,000-yard freestyle, as Lindsay Vrooman won the event in 10:00.12, followed by Taylor O'Brien (10:00.57). Indiana had three of the top-six finishers in the 200 freestyle with Cynthia Pammett third (1:49.15), Lips fourth (1:49.44) and Vrooman sixth (1:51.29).
Indiana's strong backstroke tradition continues into 2012-13 as Snodgrass won the 100-yard backstroke in 53.96, with Justine Ress fourth (56.72) and Allie Day fifth (56.76).
Specht placed second in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:02.28), followed by Pasloski in third (1:02.98) and Siri Kristiansen fifth (1:05.57).
It was a 2-3-4 finish for IU in the 200 butterfly as Lips was second (2:00.88), Brenna MacLean third (2:03.29) and Dorina Szekeres fourth (2:04.90). Pammett was fifth in the 50 free (23.73), while Pasloski took sixth (23.87). Pammett was also the top IU finisher in the 100 free (3rd-51.14), with Stephanie Armstrong fifth (52.40).
Snodgrass had the sweep in the backstroke events, winning the 200-yard back in 1:57.40). Day was third (2:02.52), Szekeres fourth (2:02.61) and Ress fifth (2:03.43).
Pasloski placed second in the 200 breaststroke (2:17.74), with Madeline Maher third (2:19.48), Specht fourth (2:02.28) and Kristiansen fifth (2:22.73).
Vrooman had her second top-two finish with a time of 4:53.57 in the 500 freestyle, placing second. Taylor O'Brien was third (5:01.16). MacLean placed fifth in the 100 butterfly (57.07), with Alexis Bullard sixth (57.72).
In 3-meter diving, Kate Hillman placed seventh (271.65), while Amy Cozad was ninth (253.25). On the 1-meter springboard, Cozad was fourth (261.85) and Hillman fifth (260.10).
Snodgrass was fourth in the 200-meter individual medley (2:06.26) and Szekeres sixth (2:08.19). In the final event of the day, Indiana took fourth in the 400 freestyle relay as O'Brien, Bullard, MacLean and Sara Delay clocked a time of 3:33.22.
Indiana is back in action next weekend as both the men and women travel to Austin, Texas to take on the Texas Longhorns and Michigan Wolverines in a double dual meet.
