No. 12 Hoosiers Rally to Defeat CSU Bakersfield

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The No. 12 Indiana Hoosiers women's water polo team (17-4, 1-1 CWPA West) scored two goals in the final 2:08 to capture their sixth consecutive win, defeating CSU Bakersfield, 9-8, at the Roadrunner Invitational on Sunday.
Sophomore Shae Fournier rifled in her second game-winner of the weekend with 34 seconds remaining after a dish from freshman Colleen McNaught to lift the Hoosiers. Indiana finished the four-game slate in Bakersfield with a perfect 4-0 mark.
McNaught led the way in the scoring department, notching her second straight hat trick, including the game-tying goal late in the fourth. Fournier finished the contest with two goals, while senior Hanna Eimstad, sophomore Meghan Lappan, freshman Alynn Reade, and freshman Shelby Taylor each posted one goal.
Senior goalkeeper Cassie Wyckoff had a productive game in the cage, notching 16 saves and grabbing a pair of steals.
After a Roadrunner goal within the first minute of the game, the Hoosiers responded with a four-goal rally to grab a 4-1 lead. McNaught scored the first two IU goals, while Fournier and Reade each notched an opening period marker.
Taylor connected from long range early in the second period and the Hoosiers looked to separate, but CSU Bakersfield responded with a barrage of their own. The Roadrunners put together four straight scores to send the two teams into half with a 5-5 tie.
Lappan rebounded a missed Hoosier shot and finished it to give IU a one-goal lead midway through the third, but CSU Bakersfield answered back 32 seconds later with a post-up score.
Lappan was on the helping end of the final goal of the third, dishing to Eimstad for the power play strike, giving Indiana a 7-6 lead going into the fourth.
The Roadrunners put the pressure on with two straight goals in the fourth quarter to take an 8-7 lead with 4:29 to play.
McNaught came through with a long-range goal to knot things up at the 2:08 mark of the final stanza.
Wyckoff came up huge with a clutch power play save with 45 seconds left to put the Hoosiers in position.
Fournier hauled in a pass from McNaught, drew an ordinary foul, and unleashed the game-winner past the CSUB goalkeeper with 34 seconds to play.
The Hoosiers came through with a final stop on CSUB's last possession of the contest to seal the win.
