BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana women's swimming team sent participants to the recent Canadian Olympic Trials and Hungarian National Championships in the hopes of earning a berth to the 2012 Olympic Games in London.
In Canada, incoming IU freshman Brooklyn Snodgrass finished sixth in the 100-meter backstroke with a time of 1:02.00. Snodgrass also took 11th in the 200-meter backstroke (2:15.35). Future teammate and current IU freshman Cynthia Pammett was 25th in the 100-meter backstroke (1:04.88) and 18th in the 200 back (2:17.90).
Pammett also competed in the 100-meter butterfly (62nd - 1:04.63) and 200-meter individual medley (40th - 2:22.41), and Snodgrass in the 200-meter individual medley (90th - 2:27.66).
Sophomore Brenna MacLean advanced to the championship final of the 200-meter butterfly, where she finished sixth in 2:14.46. She also made it to the B final of the 100 butterfly, placing eighth in the final and 16th overall with a time of 1:02.43.
Sophomore Bronwyn Pasloski competed in three events at the Canadian trials, led by a 23rd-place finish in the 200-meter individual medley (2:20.71). Pasloski also placed 27th in the 200-meter breaststroke (2:38.87) and 41st in the 100-meter breaststroke (1:13.71).
At the Hungarian Nationals, which also serves as the country's Olympic trials, Hoosier freshman Dorina Szekeres won the 200-meter backstroke in a time of 2:15.09. Unfortunately that does not automatically give Szekeres a spot at the Olympics as the FINA A standard for Olympic qualification is 2:10.84.
Szekeres also placed third in the 50-meter backstroke (30.21) and fourth in the 100-meter backstroke (1:03.95).
