BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Defensive ends Ryan Phillis and Bobby Richardson started the final four games together last season. Phillis, a redshirt freshman, and Richardson, a true freshman, each started six times overall.
The duo talked to IUHoosiers.com's Jeremy Gray.
Phillis closed the season strong with a career-high 11 stops and a half-tackle for loss against Purdue en route to IU defensive player of the game honors. The Academic All-Big Ten honoree posted 30 tackles and appeared in all 12 games.
Richardson worked his way from defensive tackle on the scout team at the start of the season to starter at defensive end. He started all six of his games in Big Ten play and appeared in nine overall.
The Tampa native collected 27 tackles with three sacks (second on team), four tackles for loss, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery. Richardson made a career-high eight stops with a half-TFL in his first start against Penn State and added four tackles in addition to two sacks and his first career forced fumble at Ohio State.
