FEDERAL WAY, Wash. - Indiana University graduate and 2009 NCAA Champion Christina Loukas came up less than a half a point shy of an Olympic berth in the women's synchronized 3-meter springboard final Thursday night at the Weyerhauser Aquatic Center in Federal Way, Wash.
Loukas and partner Kassidy Cook finished with a score of 955.98 over three rounds, 0.42 points behind winners Kelci Bryant and Abby Johnston (956.40). Only the top team advances to the Olympic Games.
Loukas and Cook actually outscored Bryant and Johnston in the five-dive final with 324.69 points. Bryant and Johnston tallied 318.60 points in the final round.
Loukas is still on track to make the 2012 Olympic team as she sits in second place in the women's 3-meter springboard competition heading into Saturday's final round. Loukas has 679.65 points, 39.20 points behind leader Cassidy Krug (718.85). The top two finishers in the event will make the Olympic team.
