BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Former Indiana University diver and 2009 NCAA Champion Christina Loukas is through to the final round of the women's 3-meter springboard competition after a solid semifinal performance at the Aquatics Centre Saturday in London.
With the top-12 individuals advancing to Sunday's final, Loukas was comfortably through with a score of 339.75, placing her sixth in the field. Both Americans will compete for a medal Sunday as Loukas' teammate Cassidy Krug qualified fifth with 345.60 points.
China's Wu Minxia was the top qualifier Saturday (394.40), followed by Italy's Tania Cagnotto (362.10) and China's He Zi (354.50). Scores from the semifinals do not carry over.
This is the second-straight Olympics that Loukas has advanced to the 3-meter springboard final. As an IU student in 2008 she competed for Team USA in Beijing, finishing ninth. Upon her return from the 2008 Games, Loukas went on to win the 2009 NCAA title on the 3-meter springboard and was named the NCAA Diver of the Year.
