Indiana Cross Country Teams Take First Place at Indiana Intercollegiates

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - The Indiana men's and women's cross country teams both took first place at the annual Indiana Intercollegiate meet in Terre Haute on Friday afternoon. Kelsey Duerksen took the top prize in the women's race for the Hoosiers as Evan Esselink was the top runner for the men's team, finishing in sixth overall.
The Indiana women tallied 29 total points with Duerksen finishing the 5K course in 17:51 as IU's Caitlin Engel followed in second place in 17:59. Molly Winters followed in sixth place (18:16), ahead of Molly Hirt in eighth position (18:20) and Erica Ridderman in 12th (18:29), which rounded out the Hoosier scoring in the women's race.
On the men's side, IU scored 49 team points. Esselink finished in sixth overall in the 8K, clocking in at 25:05 just six seconds ahead of teammate Robby Nierman in ninth place (25:11). Also scoring for the Indiana men were Adam Behnke (10th, 25:12), Nate Morrow (11th, 25:23) and JR Ricker (13th, 25:16).
Indiana will next take to the course on Saturday, Sept. 29, when it travels to Lawrence, Kan. for the Rim Rock Farm Classic.
