BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - For the second time this season, senior goalkeeper Luis Soffner is the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week, the conference office announced Monday.
Soffner picked up his fifth shutout of the season in the Hoosiers' 2-0 win at Ohio State on Sunday. Facing 16 Buckeye shots, Soffner notched six saves to earn his sixth victory of the season. The Hoosiers are 6-1-1 overall and 1-0 in Big Ten action.
Currently, Soffner leads the Big Ten in goals-against average (0.49), save percentage (.889), saves (32), shutouts (5) and shutouts per game (0.62).
This is the sixth Big Ten Player of the Week honor for a Hoosier this season. Eriq Zavaleta (Aug. 27, Sept. 3), Jacob Bushue (Sept. 17) and Caleb Konstanski (Sept. 17) join Soffner on the conference honor roll.
Indiana is back in action this Wednesday as it faces in-state foe Notre Dame at 7 p.m. ET on Jerry Yeagley Field at Bill Armstrong Stadium. The Hoosiers then travel to Penn State for a Sept. 29 showdown with the Nittany Lions.
