BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - For the second time in as many weeks, the Indiana women's swimming team has swept the Big Ten Swimmer of the Week awards, with senior Lindsay Vrooman named Swimmer of the Week and Olivia Barker named Freshman of the Week.
Vrooman swept the distance events in last week's dual meet with Texas and Michigan, winning the 500 freestyle in 4:49.01 and the 1,000 freestyle in 9:46.51. She also took third in the 200 free (1:48.44) to pick up her first Big Ten Swimmer of the Week award.
Barker joins last week's winner Gia Dalesandro as IU freshman honorees after a standout performance against Texas and Michigan. Barker won the 200 butterfly in a time of 1:58.93, which is an NCAA B cut and the fastest time by a Hoosier this season. She also took fourth in the 100 fly with a time of 54.95.
The Indiana men and women are back in action this weekend as they play host to Tennessee and Kentucky at the Counsilman-Billingsley Aquatic Center at 2 p.m. ET Friday afternoon. Admission to the meet is free.
