BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Freshman rowers Devory Dannemiller (Martinsville, Ind.) and Madison Treser (Waxford, Pa.), and sophomore coxswain Karly Kikkert (Chicago, Ill.) have been accepted into the US National Team Freshman Camp, announced by USRowing on Monday, April 1.
The Freshman Camp is for athletes with elite level potential and aspirations, but who have only one or perhaps two years of collegiate rowing experience. The goal is to expose the athlete to the National Team experience training two-three times per day, row in a variety of boat categories, learn technical and physiological basics, and train with athletes of a similar caliber. This team camp is for young athletes that have physiological potential and the desire to train for the National Team.
"This is the first time Indiana has ever had three athletes selected at one time to participate in any US Identification camps," said head coach Steve Peterson. "This is going to be a great experience for these athletes. Anytime an athlete gets to spend time training and racing with other top athletes in their sport, it is a valuable experience. I think all three of these athletes have the ability to take it to the next level if they have the desire and commitment it to go along with it."
The Freshman Camp will be held at the University of Washington in Seattle, June 10-16. World Champions and Olympic gold medalists Anna (Mickelson) Cummins and Mary Whipple will be working with the athletes on and off the water.
