BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The eighth-ranked Indiana University baseball team (43-14) will be the #1 seed at the Bloomington NCAA Regional from May 31-June 3, facing off against 4th-seeded Valparaiso in the opening round of a four-team, double elimination event. Austin Peay and Florida will also be competing inside Bart Kaufman Field as the #2 seed and #3 seed, respectively.
The right to advance to the Super Regionals begins on Friday (May 31) at 1 pm ET when the Governors (45-13) and the Gators (29-28) play the Regional opener. The Hoosiers take on the Crusaders (31-26) in a 7 pm ET night cap. All NCAA Regional action is being broadcast by the ESPN family of networks. Jim Barbar is on the call for ESPN3, providing the play-by-play for all the action in Bloomington. He will be joined by analyst Rusty Ensor.

Indiana is coming off a clean sweep of conference crowns, winning both the Big Ten Regular Season and Tournament titles. It will mark the Hoosiers' third trip to the NCAAs, also qualifying in 1996 and 2009.

• The Hoosiers won their first Big Ten regular season title since 1949 and first outright crown in 81 years (1932)

HOME SWEET HOME
Bart Kaufman Field opened with a bang, as Indiana blew up Miami (OH) 15-runs-to-1 in the facility debut. Indiana is now 16-3 in their new digs, outscoring the competition 122-50.
ALL-BIG TEN PERFORMERS
A school-record nine Hoosiers were named All-Big Ten on Tuesday (May 21), including the Big Ten Pitcher of the Year, Aaron Slegers. In addition, Head Coach Tracy Smith was the unanimous choice for the league's Coach of the Year honor. Indiana also placed three student-athletes on the Big Ten's All-Freshman squad.

ALL-TOURNAMENT TEAM In addition, six Hoosiers earned All-Big Ten Tournament recognition, including the event's Most Outstanding Player Sam Travis. The other IU honorees were Will Coursen-Carr (P), Aaron Slegers (P), Kyle Schwarber (C), Dustin DeMuth (3B) and Casey Smith (OF).
SCHWARBER TO DON STARS & STRIPES
Sophomore catcher Kyle Schwarber has been selected to join USA Baseball's 2013 Collegiate National Team. He will be one of 24 college players to don the Stars and Stripes this summer. He becomes the fourth Hoosier to be selected to Team USA, and second under the tutelage of Head Coach Tracy Smith. Alex Dickerson (2010) was the other Coach Smith product to earn a spot on Team USA, joining Mickey Morandini (1988) and Bob Scafa (1993).
NATIONALLY RANKED HOOSIERS
Baseball America tabbed the Hoosiers as the 24th-best team in the country on March 11, marking the first time in school history Indiana had been nationally ranked. IU is slotted #8 this week by Baseball America and Perfect Game, the highest ascent ever.
HOT START HOOSIERS
Indiana has scored in the first inning in 26 of 57 games, owning a 52-20 run margin in the opening frame.
BIG TEN'S ELITE, STATISTICALLY SPEAKING AND RECORD WISE
The Hoosier lineup is potent and deep, leading to Indiana sitting atop of every major offensive statistical category, sans triples, in the Big Ten. Don't sleep on the pitching, however, as the Hoosier hurlers' 2.57 team earned run average is also tops in the conference. For the "only thing that matters is wins and losses" crowd, don't fret. Indiana's 43-14 record (.754) is also the B1G's best.
HOW THE HOOSIERS STACK UP ON THE NATIONAL LEVEL
Indiana is posting numbers worthy of top-30 NCAA rankings as well. Entering the tournament, IU staff's 2.57 ERA is the seventh-lowest in the country. In addition, IU is slotted 13th in winning percentage (.754), 19th in homeruns (47), 21st in slugging percentage (.447) and batting average (.305), and 29th in doubles (115) and runs scored (381). Defensively, the Hoosiers have turned 62 double plays, good for the seventh-most twin killings in D-I baseball.
Individually, Kyle Schwarber is slotted seventh with 16 homeruns, 19th with a .676 slugging percentage and 28th with 136 total bases. Meanwhile, Dustin DeMuth's .399 batting clip places him ninth nationally.
HALSTEAD BECOMES IU'S ALL-TIME SAVES KING
Junior RHP Ryan Halstead earned the 21st save of his career after closing out Indiana's opening-round victory over Minnesota at the Big Ten Tournament last week. That total marks the most in school history, surpassing the previous record holder Chris Squires (2007-10) and his 20 career saves.
