Defense Making Strides as Hoosiers Practice for Second Time

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Head coach Kevin Wilson's football Hoosiers closed out day two of preseason camp with a mid-Saturday morning session at the IU Practice Fields. Indiana puts on partial pads Sunday and Monday before its first full-padded day on Tuesday.
Defensive coordinator Doug Mallory talked to IUHoosiers.com following Saturday's practice. Mallory is in his third year as IU's assistant head coach, co-defensive coordinator and safeties coach, and his 26th overall season.
David Cooper started all 12 games at middle linebacker one season ago. The junior finished second on the team with 86 tackles, 50 solo, with three sacks (26 yards), nine tackles for loss (36 yards), one forced fumble and three pass breakups. Cooper also spoke to IUHoosiers.com:
Safety Mark Murphy battled through injury in 2012 and started 11 times and appeared in all 12 games. In his two years at IU, Murphy has 20 starts (17 at safety, three at weak-side linebacker) and played in all 24 contests. Murphy stopped by to chat with IUHoosiers.com:
