AUSTIN, Texas -- A strong, gusting wind saw scores go up for all 15 teams as the Indiana women's golf team is currently in 12th place after two rounds of the Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational at the University of Texas Golf Club in Austin, Texas.
The final 18 holes will go off on Tuesday. Indiana will tee off at the 10th hole beginning at 9:18 a.m.
Indiana shot a 331 on Monday and sits alone in 12th place with a two-round total of 630 (299-331). UNLV leads the field at 598, followed by Baylor (599), SMU (599), Tulane (605) and San Diego State (611).
Despite the tough conditions senior Elizabeth Tong carded a 4-over 76 and is in contention for the individual title, tied for fourth overall at 145 (69-76). Tong had a pair of birdies over the first nine holes, with a four on the par-5 11th and 14th holes. She also ended the round on a solid note by going -1 over the final three holes, including her third birdie of the round on the par-4 seventh hole.
Sophomore Ana Sanjuan is tied for 53rd, posting an 86 in the second round (75-86/161). Sanjuan had just five holes of par in the day but managed to keep her compound errors to a minimum.
Freshman Alix Kong (80-82) and junior Maria Mancini (75-87) are currently tied for 57th, with Kong posting an 82 and Mancini an 87 in round two. Kong had a superb first 10 holes, posting nine pars to just one bogey, but as the day and conditions wore on it took a toll as she went bogey or worse on seven of the final eight holes.
Mancini was also solid on the first nine with six pars, but a back nine with four double bogeys dropped her in the standings.
Rounding out the IU lineup, freshman Taylor Howerton is tied for 80th, posting a 93 to go with an 84 from Sunday. Howerton had seven pars but went double bogey or worse on four-straight holes over the back nine.
