AUSTIN, Texas -- After a round of rough conditions on Monday the Indiana women's golf team bounced back for an 11th-place finish at the Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational at the University of Texas Golf Club in Austin, Texas.
The Hoosiers posted a 306 on Tuesday to finish with a 54-hole score of 936 (299-331-306. UNLV and Tulane tied for first in the standings with an 895, with Baylor third (898), SMU fourth (899) and Miami fifth (902).
Senior Elizabeth Tong tallied her first top-10 finish of the season, placing tied for sixth with a three-round score of 221 (69-76-76). Tong had a fairly clean round on Tuesday with 15 holes of par and just one double bogey on the day.
Also posting rounds of 76 on Tuesday were junior Maria Mancini (75-87-76) and freshman Alix Kong (80-82-86) who both finished tied for 53rd at 238. Mancini was just two over after the first nine holes, and took back a pair of strokes on the back nine with a birdie on the par-5 fifth hole and the par-3 eighth hole.
Kong was also a steady force for IU with seven pars over the first nine holes. After a double bogey on six and a bogey on seven, she ended the round on a high note, hitting par on eight and posting a birdie on the par-5 ninth hole.
Sophomore Ana Sanjuan placed tied for 58th after posting a 78 today (75-86-78/239). Sanjuan had a pair of birdies over the final nine holes of the round, carding a two on the par-3 second hole, and a four on the ninth hole.
Freshman Taylor Howerton carded her best round of the tournament today, with an 82 to put her in 80th (84-93-82/259). Howerton had six pars over the first nine holes, and her highlight of the round was a birdie on the par-4 fourth hole.
The Hoosiers return home to host the Hoosier Fall Invitational, set for October 17-19 at Purgatory Golf Club in Noblesville, Indiana.
