BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - A pair of swimmers with Indiana University ties were named to the USA Swimming team for the 2014 FINA Short Course World Championships, being held December 3-7 in Doha, Qatar.
Lindsay Vrooman and Cody Miller, both of whom completed their eligibility at Indiana this past spring, are part of the 37-person roster that will represent the United States in Qatar.
Vrooman made the team in the 400 freestyle and 800 freestyle based on her performance as the USA Swimming National Championships this past August. She was fourth in the 800 freestyle after posting a time of 8:29.06. Vrooman backed that performance up with a sixth-place finish in the 400 free (4:09.38). She also posted a third-place finish in the 1,500-meter freestyle at the championships.
Miller will swim the 50, 100 and 200 breaststroke at the meet and is coming off a breakthrough summer in national and international swimming. He was crowned the national champion in the 100-meter breaststroke after breaking the 1-minute barrier for the first time in his career with a time of 59.91. That performance earned him a spot on the Pan Pacific Championships team, competing in Australia this past August. The swim also earned his spot on the 2015 World Championships team.
The 12th FINA Swimming World Championships (25m) will be contested over five days at the Hamad Aquatic Center in Doha. Forty-six events (34 individual and 12 relays) are slated for the competition program, and a total of 138 medals will be up for grabs. Complete event information can be found at FINA.org.
