Hoosiers Capture 3-1 Victory Over Maryland

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Trailing Maryland 17-10 in the fourth set the Indiana volleyball team went on a 10-2 run capped off by a Taylor Lebo kill to capture a 20-19 lead and closeout the set and win the match 3-1 (25-15, 25-16, 31-33, 25-22) on Friday at the Xfinity Pavilion.
Lebo lead the Hoosiers (11-4, 2-1) with 18 kills and 20 digs, as she recorded her seventh double-double of the season.
Sophomore Megan Tallman tallied her sixth 50-plus assist game of the season with 50 assists and junior libero Courtney Harnish registered 16 digs. Junior middle blocker Awele Nwaeze recorded nine blocks for the match.
The Hoosiers got started quickly in the opening set, as they jumped to a 4-0 lead on a kill by senior Morgan Leach. Leach had nine kills for the match and now has 976 for her career. The first set had seven ties and two lead changes including a 10-10 tie. From there, the Hoosiers went on a 5-2 spurt after forcing Maryland into an attack error. Maryland closed to within one at 15-14, but the Hoosiers responded and went ahead 20-15 after two Maryland errors and won the first set 25-15.
In set two Lebo had four kills and the Hoosiers opened up a 10-5 lead and took control of the match with a 19-9 lead. Megan Tallman ended the set with a kill to give the Hoosiers a 2-0 lead in the match.
Set three was back and fourth the entire way with 18 ties and five lead changes, but Maryland eventually captured the set 33-31.
Maryland would carry that momentum over to set four and went up 16-8. The Hoosiers responded in a big way with two kills apiece by Lebo and Chante George that ignited a 10-2 run. Back-to-back kills by George and Amelia Anderson ended the match for the Hoosiers.
Up next the Hoosiers travel to Rutgers for a match on Sunday at 2:00 p.m.
