ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Junior Amelia Anderson and sophomore Taylor Lebo led the Indiana volleyball team with 14 kills apiece, but the Hoosiers fell 3-2 at Michigan (8-25, 26-24, 13-25, 25-20, 11-15) on Wednesday.
Lebo recorded her 51st service ace of the season and is now tied for fifth on the Hoosiers all-time single season list.
Junior libero Courtney Harnish moved into sixth on the Hoosiers all-time single season list for digs and now has 434.
Anderson and Lebo led the Hoosier attack and they each passed 300 kills for the season and have 303.
After dropping the first set, the Hoosiers found themselves down 16-11 in set two, but battled back to tie the score 19-19. Michigan than used a 5-0 run to get match point at 24-19. The Hoosiers would not give in and countered with seven straight points and won the set 26-24 on a kill from Anderson.
In set three Michigan hit .500 and rolled to a 25-13 victory to go up 2-1 in the match.
The Hoosiers needed an answer and had their most efficient offensive attack at a .308 hitting percentage in set four. Lebo connected on five kills in the set and IU raced to a 14-9 lead. The Wolverines could get within three on multiple occasions, but Indiana kept its composure scored the final three points of the set to take it 25-20 and force a fifth set.
Michigan went on the first run of the fifth set as they got out to a 4-1 advantage. A Michigan attack error and kill by junior middle blocker Awele Nwaeze got IU to within one at 4-3. Michigan came back to score four of the next six to take an 8-6 lead at the changeover.
Lebo slammed down a kill to cut the Michigan lead to one at 9-8, but the Wolverines came back on an Indiana service error and kill to take an 11-8 lead. The Hoosiers got within two on another Lebo kill at 12-10, but that is the closest they would come as Michigan won some long rallies down the stretch and took set five 15-11 to win the match.
Up next the Hoosiers close out the season at Minnesota on Friday Nov. 28 at 8:00 p.m. ET.
