Goss Bronze Leads Day 2 of USA Swimming Nationals

GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Freshman Kennedy Goss took third in the 500-yard freestyle to lead Indiana Swimming on day two of the AT&T Winter Nationals in Greensboro, North Carolina.
The meet continues through Saturday, with Friday's lineup including the 400 individual medley, 100 butterfly, 200 freestyle, 100 breaststroke and 100 backstroke.
Freshman Kennedy Goss earned a bronze in the 500 freestyle with a season best and NCAA B cut of 4:38.35. Junior Haley Lips placed fifth with her season best of 4:39.98. In the men's race sophomore Jackson Miller placed seventh in the field with a season best and NCAA B cut of 4:19.48.
Freshman Blake Pieroni finished 14th in the 200 individual medley, just off his season-best of 1:48.36 prelim swim with a time of 1:48.49. Senior Mike Hurley was 15th in the field with an NCAA B cut and season best of 1:48.62. Former Hoosier Eric Ress was 13th in 1:48.24. Future Hoosier Ian Finnerty won the bonus final in a time of 1:47.89.
In the women's 200 individual medley race freshman Bailey Pressey was the top Hoosier, placing 29th in 2:01.26, an NCAA B cut. Future Hoosier Miranda Tucker finished fourth in the event with a time of 1:57.87.
Freshman Grace Vertigans clocked a season-best time of 23.06 in the 50 freestyle, placing tied for fifth in the bonus final and 21st overall.
Sophomore Anze Tavcar finished 21st in the men's 50 free competition, posting a season best of 19.95. Former Hoosier Daniel Kanorr won the B final and took ninth overall in a time of 19.33.
The Indiana women placed eighth in the 400 medley relay as Justine Ress, Lips, Gia Dalesandro and Goss posted a time of 3:40.20. Indiana's B team of Marie Chamberlain, Claudia Di Capua, Olivia Barker and Vertigans took 11th in 3:41.02.
Bob Glover, Tanner Kurz, Max Irwin and Tavcar took fifth in the men's race with a time of 3:13.11. Ryan Gordon, Cody Taylor, Joe Powell and Ali Khalafalla were ninth after a time of 3:16.85.
At the 2014 World Short Course Championships in Doha, Qatar, Cody Miller earned a bronze in the 200 medley relay as part of a USA squad that clocked a time of 1:31.83. He also finished eighth in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 57.39. Miller also took fourth in the 200-yard mixed medley relay (1:38.16).
Lindsay Vrooman was the top American finisher and seventh overall in the 800 free in Doha with a time of 8:19.36.
