BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Indiana University swimmers Brooklynn Snodgrass, Kennedy Goss and Blake Pieroni were named Big Ten Swimmer of the Week and Big Ten Freshmen of the Week, respectively, the conference office announced Tuesday.
Snodgrass earns her eighth career Big Ten Swimmer of the Week honor, while Goss, who shares the award with Michigan's Gillian Ryan, takes home her third Freshman of the Week honor. Pieroni shares the men's award with Michigan's Evan White for his first Freshman of the Week award.
Snodgrass won three gold medals at last week's AT&T Winter National Championships in Greensboro, North Carolina. She won the 100 backstroke with an NCAA automatic qualifying time of 51.59. She then took the 200 backstroke title in a time of 1:51.22, also an NCAA auto time and the third-fastest time in IU history. She won gold as a member of Indiana's 800 free relay, which clocked an NCAA qualifying time of 7:05.21. Snodgrass ended the meet with a silver medal in the 400 free relay.
Goss also had a busy meet in Greensboro, earning a silver medal in the 200 free (1:44.87) and a bronze in the 500 free (4:38.35). She joined Snodgrass on the gold medal 800 free relay and the silver medal 400 freestyle relay. Her fifth-place time of 1:52.41 in the 200 backstroke is an NCAA automatic qualifying mark.
Pieroni had a record-setting meet in Greensboro, finishing fourth in the 200 freestyle with a new school record of 1:34.55. He earned a bronze medal with the Hoosiers in the 800 freestyle relay (6:24.90), while posting NCAA provisional times in the 800 free relay, 200 free, 200 individual medley and 100 free.
The Hoosiers are back in action January 16-17 in a dual meet with Wisconsin and Notre Dame in Madison, Wisconsin.
