Ress, Schmidt Take Home Big Ten Honors

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - After a season-ending 186-114 win over Purdue, senior Eric Ress has been named the Big Ten Swimmer of the Week, while senior Darian Schmidt is the Diver of the Week, the conference office announced Tuesday.
Ress took home individual titles in the 200 freestyle and 200 backstroke in the win over the Boilermakers. He posted an NCAA B cut of 1:37.68 in the 200 free, and also met the NCAA provisional standard in the 200 back with a time of 1:42.97. His day also included second-place finishes in the 500 freestyle (4:33.73) and 400 freestyle relay (2:58.84).
Schmidt collected his seventh career diver of the week honor after posting wins on the 1-meter and 3-meter vs. Purdue. He tallied a season-best score of 397.95 on the 1-meter, then came back with a 450.30 score on the 3-meter, the second time this season he has topped 450 points in the event. Both marks are meet NCAA Zone diving qualification standards.
The IU men are back in action Feb. 26-March 1 at the 2013 Big Ten Championships in Ann Arbor, Mich.
