THE OPENING TIP

DID YOU KNOW?
• Indiana has won 17 of its first 23 games for the first time since the 1993-94 season when IU started that year 17-6 as well.
• Indiana's 17 wins this season marks the most for an IU team in a single year since the 2008-09 campaign.
• With consecutive wins over Illinois and Wisconsin, it marked the first time Indiana had won back-to-back Big Ten games since the 2010-11 season.

• Simone Deloach was named to the Big Ten Player of the Week Honor Roll this week. In her last four games she is averaging 10.5 points and 9.3 rebounds per game while shooting 50 percent from the field.
• In the last two games, freshman Alexis Gassion is averaging 18.0 points and 5.5 rebounds per game while shooting 57.1 percent overall and 57.1 percent from 3-point range.
• Freshman Larryn Brooks tallied 22 points in the win over Wisconsin and went 6-of-6 from the charity stripe. She continues to lead Big Ten freshmen in scoring and ranks seventh among freshmen nationally.

PENN STATE AT A GLANCE
Penn State comes to Bloomington after a 74-54 win at Ohio State on Feb. 9. The Lady Lions have an experienced starting five of four seniors and a junior led by reigning Big Ten Player of the Year Maggie Lucas as she scores 21.0 ppg while leading the team in 3-point field goals made and she is shooting 96.4 percent from the free throw line. Ariel Edwards adds 14.4 ppg and 5.7 rpg. Point guard Dara Taylor a is averaging 11.7 ppg and dishing for 4.7 apg. As a team, PSU is averaging 75.5 ppg (2nd in B1G) and is holding opponents to shoot 35.4 percent (1st). The Lady Lions are outscoring opponents by a +11.0 margin (2nd) and leads the league in rebounding with 45.9 rpg and rebounding margin at +7.9. In Big Ten games only, PSU is outboarding opponents by a +10.6 margin.
THE MILLER EFFECT
Through one year and 23 games, Curt Miller has taken an Indiana program that went 15-44 in the two years prior to his arrival to a record of 28-25 since he became head coach at IU. The Hoosiers went 6-24 in 2011-12 and 9-20 in 2010-11. Under Miller, IU won 11 games last year and is currently 17-6 this season.
MEETING MILESTONES
• Indiana currently sits at 17-6 on the season, the last time IU won 17 times in its first 23 games was during the 1993-94 season when the Hoosiers were 17-6 through 23 contests that year.
• The 17 wins this season are the most for the program in a single season since the 2008-09 campaign (21-11) and is six more wins than IU had a year ago.
• Indiana has already doubled its Big Ten win total from a year ago.
• IU's four Big Ten wins are the most for the program in a single year since the 2009-10 season.
• The 14-0 record to begin the 2013-14 season was the best start ever in program history.
• IU's 14-game winning streak was the longest ever in school history.
• The Hoosiers were one of the last four remaining undefeated teams in the country and was the final Big Ten team with an unblemished record.
PROTECTING THE PUMPKIN
Indiana ranks first in the Big Ten and 11th nationally in fewest turnovers per game, now averaging just 12.6 miscues each contest. Seven times this year, IU has committed less than 10 turnovers and the Hoosiers are 6-1 in those games. Nine times this season IU has had 10 or fewer turnovers, including a season low of four against Butler on Nov. 23.
TOUCHING UP THE PAINT
Last time out in the win over Wisconsin, Indiana outscored the Badgers 40-28 in the paint. In six games this year, IU has scored 40 or more points inside the lane and are 6-0 in those contests. The Hoosiers have won the points in the paint battle 14 times and are 12-2 in those games.
DIALING LONG DISTANCE
In three games this season, the Hoosiers have connected on 12 3-point field goals which ties for the second most 3-pointers made in a single game in school history. Prior to this season, only three times ever in the history of the program had an IU team hit 12 or more 3-pointers in a game. Indiana leads the Big Ten in 3-point field goals made per game (7.5). Eight times this year, IU has connected on 10 or more 3-pointers in a game.
In Big Ten games only, the Hoosiers are hitting 8.1 3-point field goals per game. Through 10 conference games, IU has hit 37 more total 3-pointers than its opponent, 3.7 more per game than its Big Ten opponents are hitting.
DEFENDING THE ARC
The Hoosiers rank in the top 10 among Division I teams and first in the Big Ten in 3-point field goal defense limiting opponents to shoot 26.1 percent from beyond the arc. In 15 games this year, IU has limited foes to shoot 27.8 percent or lower from 3-point range and eight times have held opponents under 20.0 percent from long distance, including four times in Big Ten play. Indiana is tied for second in the conference in fewest 3-point field goals allowed per game (5.0).
HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE 76-69 WIN OVER WISCONSIN
• Indiana outscored Wisconsin in the paint, 40-28, and outscored the Badgers in second chance points, 14-2.
• The Hoosiers took care of the basketball and committed only seven turnovers in the game.
• Trailing 15-7 with 12:44 left in the first half, Indiana put together a 26-5 run to take a 33-20 lead with 4:03 remaining in the half. IU closed the first half outscoring Wisconsin 33-13 over the final 12:27.
• Freshman Larryn Brooks led all scorers with 22 points to go along with six rebounds, four assists and two steals. It marked the seventh time this year that Brooks has tallied 20 or more points.
• Senior Simone Deloach achieved her third double-double of the season matching her career high of 14 points and tying a season high of 14 rebounds.
• Freshman Alexis Gassion scored in double figures for a second straight game with 14 points while pulling down six rebounds with three assists.
• Freshman Karlee McBride came off the bench to tally eight points while shooting 3-of-4 overall and 2-of-2 from beyond the arc.
STARTING SIMONE
Senior Simone Deloach has came on as of late. In her last four games, she is averaging 10.5 points and 9.3 rebounds per game while shooting 50 percent from the field. She has accomplished three double-doubles this season and during the last four games has had one double-double and just missed getting two more. In the win over Wisconsin, Deloach finished with a career-high tying 14 points and season high tying 14 rebounds while also tying a career mark with four assists. At Illinois on Feb. 2, she had nine points and nine rebounds after finishing with nine points and eight boards vs. Northwestern on Jan. 30.
LARRYN LIGHTING IT UP
Freshman Larryn Brooks has had a stellar start to her Indiana career and has twice been named B1G Freshman of the Week. She ranks among the top freshmen nationally in free throw percentage (.837, 4th), total points (392, 6th), 3-point field goal percentage (.382, 6th), assists (4.4, 7th), points per game (17.0, 7th), assist-turnover ratio (1.38, 14th) and 3-point field goals per game (2.04, 21st). Brooks ranks fifth overall in the Big Ten in scoring, seventh in assists, ninth in 3-point field goals made and free throw percentage and 12th in 3-point field goal percentage and assist-turnover ratio. In Big Ten games only, Brooks is averaging 5.9 assists per game.
Brooks has already eclipsed the IU single season freshman record for free throws made as she has now connected on 103 from the charity stripe this year. She is also now second among all-time IU freshmen in 3-pointers made with 47 makes from beyond the arc and is tied for fourth in assists by an IU freshman with 101.
The Richmond, Ky., native has also set three IU freshman single game records this season:
• The first being her 37 points in the win over Virginia Tech on Dec. 4. Brooks shot 11-of-23 from the field, with four 3-point field goals and went 11-of-11 from the free throw line. She shattered a freshman record which stood for over 32 years and was held by Indiana's all-time career leading scorer, Denise Jackson, as she tallied 32 points against Michigan State on Feb. 13, 1981. The 37 points ties for the fifth best scoring game overall in IU history, the best output since Cindy Kerns scored 37 in 1999 and is the most points scored by any Big Ten player this season.
• She also set a freshman school mark hitting 7-of-9 3-point field goals against Milwaukee on Dec. 11, which also ties for the third-most made all-time in a single game at Indiana. She finished with 27 points in that game.
• Brooks dished for 10 assists two times against Minnesota on Jan. 19 and at Illinois on Feb. 2, which set a freshman record for most assists in a single game.
HIT THE GASSION PEDAL
In her last two games, freshman Alexis Gassion is averaging 18.0 points and 5.5 rebounds per game while shooting 57.1 percent from the field and 57.1 percent from 3-point range. In the win over Wisconsin last time out, Gassion scored 14 points with six rebounds and three assists while playing all 40 minutes. She had a career game at Illinois on Feb. 2. She tallied a career high 22 points while shooting 8-of-10 from the field and 4-of-5 from 3-point range. Her field goals made (8) and 3-point field goals made (4) also set career marks. She also added five rebounds, two assists, one block and a steal. For the season, Gassion is averaging 7.6 points and 4.7 rebounds per game.
TAYLOR MADE HOOSIER
Freshman guard Taylor Agler has started every game of her young Hoosier career and has been key to the Hoosier offense during Big Ten play. In conference games only, Agler is averaging nearly 10 points per game while shooting 44.7 percent (34-of-76) from the field and 44.9 percent (22-of-49) from beyond the arc. She has twice scored 20 or more points in conference play. She tallied a career high 21 points at Iowa on Jan. 25 while nailing a career best 6-of-8 3-point field goals to go along with three assists and a steal. In the overtime win against Minnesota on Jan. 19, Agler scored 20 points with seven rebounds and hit four 3-pointers.
She has tallied double figure points in seven games this year, including four during Big Ten play. She has also connected on three or more 3-point field goals five times with four of those coming in conference play. For the season, Agler is averaging 8.3 points and 3.9 rebounds per game while leading the team in steals (1.1 spg). In Big Ten play, the freshman has played 40 or more minutes in five games.
LIGHTNING Lyndsay Leikem
Freshman Lyndsay Leikem has turned the corner during Big Ten play. She has scored in double figures in three games during conference play. At Illinois on Feb. 2, Leikem achieved her first career double-double with 10 points and a career high 10 rebounds while shooting 4-of-7 from the field with a pair of treys. Against Northwestern on Jan. 30, she scored a career high 18 points while shooting 7-of-12 from the field with a pair of treys. She also had eight boards and set a career mark with three assists.
Leikem has scored eight or more points in five of the last seven games. In her last five contests, she is shooting 52.5 percent from the field and 47.1 percent from beyond the arc during that span.
