Hoosiers Show Resiliency, Claim Double Victories

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Several times during their doubleheader matches the No. 57 Indiana men’s tennis team rallied from deficits to claim victories. That toughness propelled the Hoosiers to a 6-1 victory over Xavier and a 6-1 victory over Western Michigan on Friday at the IU Indoor Tennis Center.
The Hoosiers (4-4) won 11 of 12 singles matches on the day and three of six doubles matches.
Indiana: 6, Xavier: 1
After dropping the doubles point, the Hoosiers stormed back, taking all six singles matches and taking a 6-1 victory over Xavier on Friday at the IU Indoor Tennis Center.
The duo of sophomores Sam Monette and Daniel Bednarczyk won their doubles match 8-4 to even the doubles score at 1-1. The point came down to No. 1 doubles and came down to a tiebreak with Xavier picking up the 8-7 win.
Bednarczyk evened up the match at 1-1 with a quick 6-1, 6-1 victory. Sophomore Elliott Yee and Monette also won in straight sets 6-1, 6-1 and 6-4, 6-2.
After winning his first set freshman Matthew McCoy found himself down 4-3 in the second set. McCoy would complete the comeback and clinch the match for the Hoosiers will a 6-2, 7-5 victory.
Senior Dimitrije Tasic won on a tiebreaker 7-5, 7-6 (7-5) and junior Sven Lalic won the third set 12-10 to take his singles match.

The Hoosiers got off to a better start as Monette and Bednarczyk gave IU early momentum with an 8-3 win. Tasic and Lalic clinched the doubles point for the Hoosiers with a 8-5 win at No. 1 doubles.
In singles the Hoosiers won five out of six singles matches, all in straight sets to claim the 6-1 victory over Western Michigan.
Monette and Tasic gave the Hoosiers early victories as they won their matches 6-2, 6-3 and 6-3, 6-4. Yee gave the Hoosiers the fourth point to secure the victory with a 6-0, 6-1 victory at No. 5 singles.
Up next the Hoosiers host No. 68 UCF (10:00 a.m.) and Northern Illinois (3:00 p.m.) on Sunday.
