BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Brian Knorr is in his first spring as Indiana's defensive coordinator. Knorr also coaches the team's defensive ends and outside linebackers.
The former head coach at Ohio University (2001-04) has 23 years of coaching experience at the Air Force Academy (1992-94, 2005-07), Ohio (1995-2004) and Wake Forest University (2008-13). He spent the 2011-13 seasons as defensive coordinator at Wake Forest. Knorr worked with the outside linebackers in 2013 after he coached the inside linebackers in 2011 and 2012.
Knorr met with IUHoosiers.com's Jeremy Gray following spring practice No. 3 on Tuesday:
The 2013 Demon Deacons allowed 24.1 points (38th nationally), 143.2 rushing yards (34th), 223.0 passing yards and 366.2 total yards (32nd) per game in 2013.
In 2012, WFU forced 23 turnovers and ranked second in the ACC with 12 forced fumbles. Wake Forest ranked in the top half of the conference in eight of the 12 major defensive categories in league play.
Knorr worked as co-coordinator in 2011 and implemented a 3-4 scheme that led to an improvement in every defensive category. Four members of the defense received invites to NFL camps and two were drafted - Kyle Wilber in the fourth round by the Dallas Cowboys and Josh Bush in the sixth round by the New York Jets.
A 1986 graduate of the Air Force Academy with a degree in management, Knorr lettered three years at quarterback. Air Force won 30 games, the top three-year span in school history.
He served in the Air Force at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio, after he graduated. Knorr earned his master's in business administration from the University of Dayton in 1991.
