BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana Rowing team's record season has resulted in the Hoosiers picking up the program's first-ever at-large bid to the NCAA Championships, which will take place at Eagle Creek Park in Indianapolis, May 30-June 1.
"We're really excited," said head coach Steve Peterson. "It's been a long time coming. The team has been building and building over the years. The athletes over the course of the years have worked hard so we could make progress every year and it's finally come to fruition, so we're very excited."
The Hoosiers are coming off a record performance at the Big Ten Rowing Championships, finishing in fourth for the program's highest finish at the championship. IU also made history in the First Varsity 8 and Second Varsity 8 boats, medaling in each event for the first time in program history.
Indiana is seeded 12th in the First Varsity 8 race, 11th in the Second Varsity 8 and 13th in the First Varsity 4 race. The Hoosiers are one of four teams from the Big Ten earning a bid, including reigning National Champion Ohio State, Michigan and Wisconsin.
"We had a pretty good idea that we would get selected, but actually seeing it just solidified it," said junior Meradith Dickensheets. "This is the first time that IU will be seen at the NCAA's so we're really excited to be part of it."
Racing gets underway on Friday, May 30 with the First Varsity 8 races at 9:10 a.m. ET. Click here for ticket information. Click here for the complete NCAA release.
