IU Rowing Team Hosts Informational Meeting
8/18/2014 12:00:00 AM | Women's Rowing

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana rowing team, fresh off the best season in program history, will host informational meetings in the SRSC Auditorium on the IU Bloomington campus on Aug. 26 and Aug. 28 at 6 p.m. The meetings will allow those interested in trying out for the team to gather more information about the opportunity to be a varsity athlete at Indiana.
One of the more recent examples of someone joining the team through this opportunity is Meradith Dickensheets, who will be a senior on the 2014-15 team. She joined the team as a walk-on and worked her way up to being named 2014 Pocock First Team All-American and was invited to the 2014 USRowing Women's U23 National Team Camp over the summer.
As a team, the 2014 season was the most successful in school history. The Hoosiers advanced to the NCAA Championships for the first time in program history and finished 11th. Indiana spent most the season ranked No. 13 in the CRCA/USRowing Coaches poll and ended the 2014 slate ranked No. 11. The Hoosiers finished fourth at the Big Ten Championships, the program's best finish at the championships. Dickensheets was named First Team All-Big Ten, while Alice Wright and Karly Kikkert were named Second Team All-Big Ten. Wright was also honored as Big Ten Freshman of the Year, the program's first individual league honor. IU's Varsity 8 and Second Varsity 8 medaled in their events at the league championships for the first time in program history.
No prior rowing experience is necessary. For more information, contact Novice Coach Kate Sweeney (sweeneyk@indiana.edu).
