OLYMPIA FIELDS, Ill. -- The Indiana men's golf team posted a team score of 303 on Friday at Olympia Fields Country Club, putting them in 10th place out of 15 of the top teams in the country after one round of the Olympia Fields/Fighting Illini Invitational.
For the second straight tournament, senior Nicholas Grubnich is paced the IU contingent, as he is tied for 23rd after his first round score of 4-over par 74. He had two double bogeys, one bogey, one birdie and 14 pars on his round.
Freshman Brendon Doyle continues his strong play to start his collegiate career, as he sits just one shot behind Grubnich in a tie for 28th place with his score of 5-over par 75.
Sophomore Will Seger and freshman Matt Weber - making his collegiate debut - both posted scores of 7-over par 77 while Andrew Havill rounded out the IU scores with a 82 in his first round.
The Hoosiers lead Big Ten foes Michigan by one stroke and are also ahead of Colorado, Texas A&M, Connecticut and Texas after the first day of competition.
Round two begins at 9:45 a.m. CT on Saturday with all the teams play 18 holes.
