HANAHAN, S.C. -- The Indiana women's golf team posted a second-round score of 294 to jump four spots up the leaderboard on day two of the Powerade Cougar Classic at Yeamans Hall Club in Hanahan, South Carolina.
Indiana currently sits in 18th place with a 36-hole score of 602 (308-294). Arkansas leads the way at 567, followed by Wake Forest (569), UCLA (569), N.C. State (572) and Duke (574) in the top five of the 23-team tournament.
Building on yesterday's 1-over 73, senior Elizabeth Tong owned the course Monday by posting a 4-under 68 to move into a tie for ninth in the field at 141. Tong finished with six birdies on the day and was on her way to a collegiate career best at 5-under before a bogey on the par-4 11th hole.
Junior Camille Chevalier matched her steady play from round one with an identical 75 on Monday and is tied for 58th at 150. Chevalier had 13 holes of par or better on the day, including birdies on five and 11.
Junior Marissa DeCola bounced back in round two with an even-par 72 to move up to a tie for 89th (83-72/155). DeCola was -2 after the first four holes, opening with birdies on 15 and 18. She added under-par scores on holes two, four and 10, but a double bogey on the par-14 14th hole to end her round left DeCola at even on the day.
Freshman Taylor Howerton saw a one-stroke improvement in the second round, carding a 79 to sit tied for 107th (80-79/159). Howerton began the morning with a birdie on the par-5 15th hole, but took a double bogey on 18. She would shoot par or better on seven of the remaining 14 holes, including a birdie on the par-4 seventh hole.
Freshman Alix Kong is tied for 111th with an 81 on Monday (80-81/161). Kong posted par or better on nine of 18 holes, led by a birdie on the par-4 11th hole.
Final round action gets underway Tuesday at 8:30 a.m. ET with a shotgun start on the course.
