NEWS AND NOTES
• The Hoosiers got off to a strong start to the 2014 season, winning a share of its adidas/IU Credit Union Classic with a 1-1 tie with No. 9 Georgetown and a 1-0 win over No. 12 Marquette. • In the tie with Georgetown, junior Femi Hollinger-Janzen was the goal scorer for IU in the 26th minute, while Georgetown came back to knot things up in the 58th minute on a score from junior Brandon Allen.
• It was a new-look Hoosier squad against the Hoyas as seven players who had never appeared in an official match for Indiana took the field, including sophomore Derek Creviston, freshman Grant Lillard, junior Matt Foldesy and freshman Trevor Swartz who were part of the starting lineup. • The Hoyas got the first good look of the night in the 12th minute when Allen re-directed a ball served into the penalty area, forcing IU goalkeeper Colin Webb to make the save as he went to the ground on his left.
• Webb would finish with four saves on the night, while his Georgetown counterpart Tomas Gomez tallied three. • In the 16th minute a header from Hollinger-Janzen off a long throw-in from senior Jamie Vollmer was stopped by Gomez to keep things scoreless.
• Things wouldn't stay scoreless for long as Hollinger-Janzen netted his first goal of the season, set up by the play of sophomore Tanner Thompson who was making just his second career start. • Thompson crossed a ball into the box from the left side, directed at junior Andrew Oliver. Oliver nicked it to the goalkeeper, but Gomez was able to clear the ball out. The rebounded landed right at Hollinger-Janzen, who fought through traffic with a low, hard shot into the back of the net.
• Just minutes later it could have been a 2-0 Indiana lead as Thompson again found Oliver, but his 1v1 shot against Gomez sailed high. • It was less than 13 minutes into the second half when a dangerous Georgetown side broke through as Allen scored his first of the season. Alex Muyl crossed a ball into Allen, who spun and hit it past Webb to make it a 1-1 match.

Jack Griffith, Michael Riedford and Jay McIntosh all came in off the bench for their first action in the Cream and Crimson. • Freshman midfielder Michael Riedford notched his first career goal in the 32nd minute in the 1-0 victory over No. 12 Marquette.
• The game's lone goal started in the midfield when freshman defender Grant Lillard brought the ball up the middle of the pitch. After juking around a Marquette player, he laid the ball off to sophomore Tanner Thompson. Thompson took a shot from the left side that was parried out by MU goalkeeper Charlie Lyon. The ball fell to Riedford on the far right and he tapped it in from close range to put Indiana up. • Indiana started the game on the attack, with its first scoring threat of the day coming in the 19th minute as a ball in from junior Andrew Oliver found junior Femi Hollinger-Janzen, but his shot went right into Lyon's arms.
• Less than two minutes later Thompson unleashed a pair of shots that had Marquette on its toes, taking the first shot off a free kick that was blocked. The ball went right back to him, but his second shot was also blocked. • Sophomore goalkeeper Colin Webb, who was named to the all-tournament team along with Thompson, Lillard and Hollinger-Janzen, came up big for IU in the 23rd minute when a flick header from Axel Sjöberg came his way. It was one of three saves on the day for Webb.
• The Hoosiers did not let down coming out of the halftime break as freshman Jack Griffith dribbled the ball into the penalty area and took a shot that was saved in the first minute of action. In the second minute of the second half it was Griffith who had a flick header also saved by Lyon. Griffith finished with three shot attempts coming in off the bench, two of which were saved. • Freshman Trevor Swartz missed added his name to the scoring tally in the 73rd minute when Riedford sent in a perfect cross that he hit over the cross bar and an open net.
