The two goals by Volgraf tie a career record for the redshirt junior who missed the entire 2013 season with an injury.
“As horrible as it was being out, it also taught me a whole lot,” said Volgraf. “You don’t take anything out there for granted and you realize 70 minutes isn’t as tiring or as hard as you think it is. It feels great to be back out on the field with these girls and be back to playing.”
The Golden Bears took the early lead on an unassisted goal by Monica Marrazzo at the 16:23 mark.
Indiana would respond twice before the end of the first period, with Volgraf’s first goal of the game and a score by Lorite off a penalty corner.
“You should have an advantage at home,” said Indiana head coach Amy Robertson. “You’re in your comfort zone, it’s in your wheelhouse. I said to the team at halftime ‘this is our first home game, we’ve got to make sure we defend it and come away with a win.’”
Volgraf picked up her second goal of the game off an assist by Audra Heilman, who recorded three assists in the match – which ties her own program record. Heilman also had three assists against St. Louis in 2013.
Barber sealed the Hoosier victory with her first goal of the season in the 59th minute.
Indiana will return to action on Sunday when the Hoosiers host UC Davis at 12 p.m.
