Volleyball Gets Past Miami University (Ohio)

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Indiana volleyball team prevailed in its home opener, winning 3-1 (28-26, 23-25, 25-22, 25-23) over Miami University (Ohio) at University Gym on Friday night to open the Indiana Invitational.
Both teams battled each other and hot conditions, as over 1,116 fans made it out to University Gym.
Indiana (4-0) had four players in double-digits in kills, led by senior Morgan Leach with 15 on 24 attempts, for a .417 hitting percentage.
Sophomore setter Megan Tallman continued to quarterback the offense with 52 assists for the four-set match. Tallman also tallied four kills and no errors on 10 attempts for a .400 hitting percentage.
Junior libero Courtney Harnish paced the defense with 15 digs and sophomore Taylor Lebo did a little bit of everything with 11 kills, five aces, five digs, three blocks and two assists.
After two close opening sets the teams went into the break even at 1-1. The third set would be an offensive breakthrough for the Hoosiers, who hit .405 in the set, led by Leach with five kills on five attempts and no errors. Tallman picked up 17 assists on 19 kills and the Hoosiers won the set 25-22 to seize control of the match, up 2-1.
In the fourth set neither team could build much momentum, with the score tied 6-6, 8-8 and 9-9. With IU up 12-11, the Hoosiers went on a small run with a kill by Leach and back-to-back blocks to extend their lead to 15-11. The RedHawks would respond and tied the contest 18-18.
Lebo used her jump serve to get two quick aces to give the Hoosiers a 20-18 advantage and a kill by junior Amelia Anderson made it 21-18. The Hoosiers would go up 24-21 and although the RedHawks got it to 24-23, Anderson slammed down a kill to give the Hoosiers the 25-23 set win and the match.
Up next the Hoosiers battle Southeast Missouri State at 12:00 p.m. tomorrow.
