Rivalry Matchup

The Indiana men's and women's swimming and diving teams face off on Saturday, January 24 at 11 a.m. ET. In an unusual twist this meet in West Lafayette will serve as Senior Day for IU seniors Murray Crabtree, Mike Hurley, Joe Powell, Danton Rogers, Steve Schmuhl and Yianni Thermos. They, along with the Purdue seniors, will be honored prior to the meet.

Indiana vs. Purdue (MEN)

Since the 1975-76 season, Indiana and Purdue have met 35 times in dual meets, with the Hoosiers holding a 29-6 record. Indiana has won four straight in the series, including last year's 186-114 win in Bloomington. Purdue's last victory came in 2010 by a 176-124 score.

Digging further into the record books IU won dual meets from 1956-64 (1965 results are missing) and 1966-75. Purdue won the meeting in 1955 by a 48-45 score, and in 1954 by a 61-32 score.

Indiana vs. Purdue (WOMEN)

Indiana was a 154.5-135.5 winner in the dual meet in Bloomington last season. IU also took a 179-121 victory in West Lafayette in 2013.

Since the first dual meet meeting in 1982-83, the Hoosiers hold a 20-10 record against the Boilermakers, including victories in 12 of the last 13 meetings.

National Rankings

In the latest College Swimming Coaches Association of America Division I Team Rankings (Jan. 15), the IU women come in at No. 14. Other Big Ten teams include No. 9 Michigan, No. 11 Minnesota, No. 17 Penn State, No. 21 Iowa and No. 24 Wisconsin. The most recent men's rankings came out on Dec. 11, with the Hoosiers at No. 13. Other Big Ten teams include No. 6 Michigan, No. 9 Ohio State, No. 14 Wisconsin, No. 20 Iowa and No. 23 Minnesota.

Last Time Out...

It was a clean sweep for the Hoosiers as both the men and women picked up victories over Wisconsin and Notre Dame in a two-day dual meet Jan. 16-17 in Madison, Wis. The teams combined for 20 event victories, highlighted by a record-setting performance from sophomore diver Michael Hixon, who won the 1-meter springboard competition with a school-record score of 444.20. He also took the 3-meter title. Brooklynn Snodgrass remained undefeated in the backstroke with a sweep of the 100 and 200, with Kennedy Goss winning the 1,000 free in her first ever collegiate swim in the event, and Haley Lips taking the 500 free. Blake Pieroni was a double individual winner with victories in the 100 free and 200 free.

The Indiana women are 5-3 on the season, including wins in their last four matchups. The Hoosier men boast a record of 6-2 on the year, including a win over Auburn to open the season.

Big Ten Honors

Indiana swimmers and divers have been well represented on the Big Ten weekly awards list. Anze Tavcar has been Big Ten Swimmer of the Week on two occasions, while Blake Pieroni has earned the Big Ten Freshman of the Week award twice. Michael Hixon comes in with a whopping four Big Ten Diver of the Week honors in his first season as a Hoosier. James Connor also has a Big Ten Diver of the Week award to his credit, while Ali Khalafalla was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week on Oct. 14.

On the women's side Brooklynn Snodgrass has three Big Ten Swimmer of the Week awards, while Kennedy Goss has been named Freshman of the Week three times. Jessica Parratto and Lacey Houser have each taken home a Big Ten Diver of the Week award.

National Champions

Several Hoosiers picked up national titles at the USA Swimming Winter Nationals Championships and the USA Diving Winter Nationals. Brooklynn Snodgrass was crowned a national champion in the 100 backstroke, 200 backstroke and 800 free relay at the USA Swimming event in December. Joining her as a national titlist in the 800 free relay were Haley Lips, Cynthia Pammett and Kennedy Goss.

At the USA Diving Winter Nationals, Jessica Parratto won gold in the platform competition and earned another title alongside former Hoosier Amy Cozad in the synchro platform event. While he did not win a national title, Michael Hixon's second-place finish in the 1-meter springboard competition earned him a spot at the 2015 World Championships.

Up Next

The Indiana women will play host to Louisville on Friday, Jan. 30 at 5 p.m. ET at the Counsilman-Billingsley Aquatic Center. The meet will also serve as senior day for the women's squad. It is a split-squad weekend for the men as a majority of the team will travel to Columbus, Ohio on Jan. 31 to face the Buckeyes and Louisville at 1 p.m. ET. The rest of the men will compete against Evansville on Jan. 30 at 5 p.m. ET in Bloomington.
