CARMEL, Ind. – The Indiana men's golf team posted a team score of 618 (318-300) after two rounds of the Crooked Stick Intercollegiate at Crooked Stick Golf Club, where the Hoosiers are serving as host.
Sophomore Brendon Doyle was the top performer for IU, finishing his two rounds at 9-over par 153 (80-73). After opening with an 80 in his first round, he began his second round with seven straight pars before finishing his front nine with back-to-back birdies. He carded six pars and three bogeys on his back nine to finish with a 73 in his second round.
Like Doyle, junior Andrew Havill posted an opening round score of 80 after struggling on the back nine. But in his second round, he carded five birdies to help offset some difficulties on the back nine again and finished with a second round score of 76. He has a total score of 156 (+12) after two rounds and is tied for 40th.
Indiana has a pair of players tied at 14-over par 158 in freshman Jake Brown and senior Max Kollin. Brown, who hails from Carmel, Indiana, started his day with an 82 but then went out in 1-under 35 on his first nine holes of round two. The back nine showed its teeth once again and Brown finished with a score of 76. It was the same story for Kollin, as he opened with an 83 in round one but then took control on the back nine of his second round by coming in even par 36 to register a score of 75.
While the other IU players struggled in round one and then rebounded in round two, junior Keegan Vea was the opposite. He started with a solid 76 to begin the day before posting 83 in his second roun and will enter the final round tied for 53rd.
Indiana also has two players competing as individuals in the tournament – Jack Sparrow and Trevor Ranton. For Sparrow, the redshirt freshman, he logged a 87 in round one but followed with a 76 in round two and is tied for 61st individually.
Ranton, the true freshman from Canada, carded a 79 in his first round and followed it up with a 81 in round two.
The Hoosiers will begin the final round going off the 10th tee at 9:45 a.m. ET on Tuesday. To follow all of the scores and get up-to-the-minute results, follow the live scoring at GolfStat.com.
